The influence of the tiotropium bromide therapy on mucociliary clearance in patients with bronchial asthma combined with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Abstract

Purpose. To estimate the clinical, morphofunctional and prognostic effectiveness by tiotropium bromide (ТB) for the mucociliary insufficiency (MCI) correction in patients with bronchial asthma (BA) combined with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
During 12 weeks 67 patients with BA combined with COPD were treated with the traditional therapy by inhaled corticosteroids accompanied with long-acting β2-agonist. It is revealed that he additional use of TB during 12 weeks of treatment in patients with BA combined with COPD significantly de-creases the functional demonstration of MCI. TB effectiveness for MCI correction can be prognosticated by the initial data of integral MCC p
