Diagnostic challenges and immediate outcomes of surgical treatment of a patient with duodenal non-epithelial tumor

Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) can be localized in all regions of the gastrointestinal tract. The duodenum accounts for up to 5% of GIST localizations. Often, the tumor develops covertly, manifesting itself only by its complications. The most common of these is the bleeding into the duodenum. In the structure of the causes of bleeding from the upper gastrointestinal tract, bleeding from GIST takes up several of percent. In clinical practice, difficulties arise in the differential diagnosis of GIST localized in the duodenum and duodenal ulcer. In the presented clinical case, only complex instrumental diagnostics allowed GIST to be verified at the preoperative stage. A good result of surgical treatment of a nonepithelial duodenal tumor has been shown.
